  18. This document contains information that is important, and 
  19. information that is too new to have been incorporated in 
  20. the User's Manual.  There are nine sections in this 
  21. document:

  23. 1.  USB TABLET INSTALLATION - Provides information 
  24.     about connecting your Wacom USB tablet, and step-by-
  25.     step instructions for installing the tablet software.

  28.     information about connecting your Wacom tablet, and 
  29.     step-by-step instructions for installing the tablet 
  30.     software.

  32. 3.  UNINSTALL - Provides step-by-step instructions for 
  33.      removing the Wacom tablet from your system.

  35. 4.  KNOWN ISSUES AND WORKAROUNDS - Describes
  36.     known problems, workarounds, unsupported features,

  55. USB TABLET INSTALLATION
  56.  
  57. Intuos USB tablets support hot-plugging, which allows you 
  58. to connect or disconnect an Intuos USB tablet while your 
  59. computer is turned on.  Plug Intuos directly into your 
  60. computer’s USB port or into a powered USB hub.
  61.  
  62. IMPORTANT! Do not plug Intuos into a USB keyboard or non-
  63. powered USB hub.  Intuos requires a powered USB port.
  64.  
  65. If your computer is off, turn it on and allow the operating 
  66. system to fully load.  The Intuos LED will light, indicating 
  67. that Intuos has been registered as a USB device.
  68.  
  69. Intuos requires a Macintosh with USB port and Mac OS 8.5 
  70. or greater.  If you are using an iMac, be sure to read the 
  71. following requirements before installing Intuos.
  72.  
  73.  * iMAC REQUIREMENTS *
  74.    For the iMac, Intuos requires Mac OS 8.5 or greater and 
  75.    Mac OS ROM 1.2.1 or greater.  Click the Apple icon and 
  76.    select About This Computer… to verify your operating 
  77.    system and OS ROM versions.  If the Mac OS ROM version 
  78.    does not display, or an older Mac OS ROM version is 
  79.    displayed, you must install the firmware and OS ROM 
  80.    update.  If necessary, install Mac OS 8.5 and run the iMac 
  81.    Firmware Update located on the Intuos CD in the Apple 
  82.    iMac Updates folder.  Next, run iMac Update 1.1.  Then 
  83.    install the tablet driver software.

  85. To install Intuos:
  86.  
  87.     Intuos is working in mouse emulation mode.  You should 
  88.     be able to use your Intuos Pen on the tablet to move the 
  89.     screen cursor.
  90.  
  91.     IMPORTANT: To use the full capabilities of Intuos for 
  92.     pressure-sensitive drawing and tracing, you must 
  93.     install the tablet software from the Intuos CD.  
  94.  
  95. 1.  Disable any virus protection programs and close all 
  96.     open applications before installing the software.
  97.  
  98. 2.  Insert the Intuos CD into your computer and double-
  99.     click the Install icon to launch the install program.  
  100.     Choose your language option, click OK, and follow the 
  101.     prompts.
  102.  
  103. After restarting your computer, you will be able to use the 
  104. tablet input tool to move the screen cursor in pen mode.
  105.  
  106. For additional information on installation and 
  107. troubleshooting, refer to the electronic User’s Manual.  If 
  108. you have completed the software installation, the User’s 
  109. Manual can be accessed by double-clicking on the User’s 
  110. Manual icon located in the Wacom Tablet folder.  When the 
  111. Wacom control panel is open, you can access the User's 
  112. Manual from the control panel Help menu.

  115. ADB & SERIAL TABLET INSTALLATION
  116.  
  117. First install the tablet hardware.  For information on 
  118. connecting the Wacom tablet to your system, refer to the 
  119. installation sheet that came with your tablet.
  120.  
  121. Then, install your tablet software:
  122.  
  123. 1.  Make sure the tablet is properly connected, then turn on 
  124.     your computer.  The status LED on your tablet should 
  125.     light to indicate the tablet is powered up.  (If your 
  126.     tablet has a power switch, remember to turn it on.)
  127.  
  128. 2.  Temporarily disable any virus protection programs.
  129.  
  130. 3.  Insert the Wacom tablet CD into your computer.
  131.  
  132. 4.  Double-click on the Install icon and follow the prompts.
  133.  
  134. 5.  After restarting the computer, you should be able to 
  135.     use your tablet input tool to move the screen cursor.
  136.  
  137. For additional information on installation and 
  138. troubleshooting,  refer to the electronic User's Manual.  If 
  139. you have completed the software installation, the User's 
  140. Manual can be accessed by double-clicking on the User's 
  141. Manual icon located in the Wacom Tablet folder.  When the 
  142. Wacom control panel is open, you can access the User's 
  143. Manual from the control panel Help menu.

  146. UNINSTALL
  147.  
  148. To remove the tablet and software from your system:
  149.  
  150. 1.  Insert the Wacom tablet CD into your computer and 
  151.     double-click on the Install icon.
  152.  
  153. 2.  Select the Remove button.
  154.  
  155. 3.  Shut down your computer and disconnect your tablet.
  156.  
  157.  
  158. KNOWN ISSUES AND WORKAROUNDS
  159.  
  160. * GENERAL NOTES *
  161.  
  162.     ADVANCED MAPPING
  163.     With Mac OS 7.5, a system crash will occur when 
  164.     modifying Advanced Mapping settings for an ADB tablet 
  165.     as follows: If the Tablet Area is set to a portion of the 
  166.     tablet and the Aspect is set to Mouse Mode, a system 
  167.     crash will occur and the tablet will no longer be seen.  
  168.     Restarting the computer will not solve this problem.  
  169.     If this happens, zap the P-RAM to reset the ADB bus.  
  170.     To zap the P-RAM, hold down the Command, Option, P, 
  171.     and R keys while the system boots until you hear the 
  172.     Startup Tone three times.  The tablet will be found and 
  173.     function normally.  To avoid this problem, download and 
  174.     install the free system upgrade to OS 7.5.5 from 
  175.     www.apple.com.

  180. At this time there are no corrections to the User’s Manual.

  185. Wacom PenTools came bundled with your Wacom tablet
  186. system.  PenTools are professional, pen-sensitive plug-in
  187. tools for image editing and creative design.  PenTools
  188. take advantage of the capabilities of your Wacom tablet
  189. and tools -- enabling you to precisely apply and control
  190. image effects based on the nuance and inflection of your
  191. hand movements.

  193. To install the PenTools plug-ins, open the PenTools
  194. folder on the Wacom tablet CD.  See the PenTools Readme 
  195. file and refer to the User's Manual for late-breaking news 
  196. and installation instructions.
